Coming Up Soon
Arthur Chapman
Two new quite different courses will soon be on offer at the NCS College of Online Learning – Understanding Journalism and Birds and Birdwatching I.
Understanding Journalism, written and tutored by
Krys Wareing who has first-hand knowledge of journalism as a reporter
and sub-editor, aims to help you appreciate what makes a good reporter,
learn about sub-editing, and find out how broadcast and internet journalism
work. In addition you will be doing some writing yourself and explore
aspects of communication through the medium of the printed word. If you
are interested in how we communicate, would like to find out more about
the rules and conventions involved, or maybe even be thinking of a career
in Journalism, then look out for this course – there’s plenty
in it for everyone.
Birds and
Birdwatching – Have
you ever wondered what birds visit your garden, or which bird is singing
in the tree across the street? Do you want to find out more about the fascinating
world of birds? If you answer yes, or even maybe, to any of these questions then
this first course on birds and birdwatching is for you. Alan Pearman is
an experienced science teacher with a developing interest in birdwatching for over 10 years.
He brings a wealth of practical experience to this course which is a combination
of careful reading and study and fieldwork in your own garden or local park
or even further afield. In this course you will explore birdwatching – what
it is, and what it is not, be introduced to ways of identifying common birds,
through visual observation and by identifying bird songs and calls, and
take a look at the different habitats frequented by a variety of common British
birdlife. Keep an eye open for this course which we aim to have ready
for April.
