Making
the Most of Moodle
Moodle is what we use as our 'Virtual Learning
Environment' - our online classrooms, if you prefer. Whether you are
studying Constellations
of the North or California
Dreaming you are using our Moodle to read your learning materials, tackle
your assignments or communicating with your tutor. We've used Moodle
almost since it first appeared from Perth, Australia where it was developed
by Martin Dougiamas as a PhD thesis. Since then, Moodle has taken the
learning world by storm, and is used by colleges, universities and schools
all over the planet.
The Open University have adopted Moodle as their
learning environment of choice. At the last
count there
were over 21,000 Moodle sites, with nearly 9 million users - so you're
not alone when you're in a Moodle!
At the New Curiosity Shop we run workshops and seminars in using Moodle aimed at lectureres and teachers, and we thought it was high time we brought our skills and knowledge out onto the web, and as a result we have developed an online course in Moodle - for educators.
We've had great fun putting this course together, trying to combine the
best of a live workshop with a real flesh and blood tutor with the best
of online learning - learning at your own pace. The first of what we
plan as a series of online workshops is available now - Making
the Most of Moodle 1 - Getting Started.
It's a practical course stuffed with activities to help you develop your own skills in creating a simple course in Moodle, whether you want to use Moodle for distance learning or to support your normal classroom teaching. We provide you with your own space in Moodle in which to practice, and you have a tutor on hand to help you through the tricky bits.
So, if you're a teacher, a lecturer, a professor, a tutor or just curious, come along and find out why Moodle is taking over the world of education.
