Open Week 2007
Noel Chidwick
From time-to-time every good college or university opens its doors wide
and allow the public in to wander around to see what it has to offer.
The New Curiosity Shop is a virtual college, I hear you say, you can't
do that - you have no doors to open. Oh we can, I reply, and we have done
so already.
Last year we ran an Open Week as part of Adult Learners' Week, and a good
time was had by one and all. This year we will repeat this event and
give you all a chance to look around and explore our virtual classrooms.
You can taste some course snippets - sample a morsel of Egyptology, a dash of philosophy, a sip of the science behind herbal remedies, a bite of astronomy, and a few others.
You can also talk to some of our tutors directly. We will be running live
text chats during the week where you can ask tutors about their courses,
and you can also talk to the New Curiosity Shop team and ask your penetrating
questions.
We're also using Skypecast and running a live audio conference where you can speak to us for real (only the college is virtual).
The whole event is ably managed and organised by our man on the spot, Mark
Toner, who is even now rounding up the troops to make sure that the Open
Week is a great opportunity for you to find out more about online learning
and the courses we offer.
Full details are at the Open Week page. Keep your eyes peeled: more information will be added as the Week approaches.
