You’ve booked a holiday in Italy but you don’t know any Italian. You’re looking forward to having a great time but you’re worried because:

• you don’t know how to greet people;
• you’ll not understand the menu, and eat something you don’t like;
• you don’t know how to ask for directions;
• you don’t know how to ask for information.

Worry no more - you’ve come to the right place. In this online course you can learn enough basic Italian to get around easily, at the airport, hotel, restaurant, or visiting the sites.

This course is very different from the typical guidebook: with the magic of technology you can have live conversations with your tutor, a native Italian speaker living in Italy. You also work at your own pace practicing on your own, building your confidence all the time.

You will take a virtual journey through Italy together with your (Italian) tutor, who will guide you through some standard situations you will face when you visit Italy. You will learn new words, new expressions, and, at the same time receive helpful information for your real trip to Italy, so you can relax and enjoy your holiday.

Outline

This course is divided into five lessons. You will learn:

Lesson 1

to understand and answer easy questions about you and your job;
to ask easy questions and how to greet people;
the right way to address people in Italy.

Lesson 2

to understand easy questions about yourself and to give a proper answer;
to invent similar questions to address to other people;
to tell if you are married or not;
to count from one to ten.

Lesson 3

to ask for information;
to book into hotels and camp sites;
to ask where things are located;
and to use numbers up to 20.

Lesson 4

to understand a menu;
to express your preferences about food;
to order a meal;
and finally to count from 20 to 100.

Lesson 5

how to ask for directions;
to understand information that you have been given;
how to ask about distances;
to ask something about street signals; and
something about Italian driving !

This course is ideal for first time visitors to Italy, giving you a valuable boost of confidence to help you get around.

This course is also ideal if you just want to begin to learn a new language to impress yourself - and your friends.

This course should give you a boost of confidence to enable you to 'get by' on your first trip to Italy.

We plan follow up courses, or you can use your new-found confidence to take a further course at college.
