The National Union of Students (NUS) has entered into and argument with the Office for Fair Access (OFFA) over a perceived failure of duty by the government standards body. NUS President Wes Streeting has called for the resignation of Sir Martin Harris, the director of OFFA, claiming incompetence.
Last week, the Higher Education Minister announced that fees were to rise by 2%, while maintenance allowances will be held at last year’s level. OFFA has the job of matching minimum bursaries to cover such gaps for poorer students, but has announced no increase in response to the Education Minister.
